Too Many T's - Running Wild EP (2014)

You may know Too Many T's from London. Leon and Roos bring an oximoron to the rap scene: they are making fresh old school hiphop music. "That actually sells." I wrote about their previous EPs here and about a month ago they released their next chapter of their history the Running Wild EP. The whole stuff is free on their website but they won't say a wrong word if you can support them with a few pounds. Anyway, let's see the Runing Wild before you go mental and run wild because of my regular bullshit. (Bullshit is after the embed EP! [: )






Salt shaker is a great intro, it summons Gramatik and the electronic hiphop scene. Scratching and sampling is just awesome, unfortunately the intro takes only one minute. The Realness is a boom track, a must to listen to. You can hear how Leon's and Ross' voice develpoed, it is clearer, they articulate better. The instruments are heavy kind of Wiley beats. The Same Thing starts with afro-funky beats and then you got real hiphop about diversity. 1992 pt. II. uses Main Source's Fakin the Funk and cuts by Featurecast, that must be enough to start the track. You can find two skit on the EP, Beatbox is okay but Simon's attitdue to rap music and his monolouge is crazy - it can be a real meme like the trader's speech in 1 Hét (HU short movie). In Better Bug you get a classic cooperative rap track where everyone have a verse - anyway I would have put this track at the end of the EP as a grand finale. Running Wild gave the name of the EP and it is not my favourite one but it is just a matter of time. I wish there were more rap tracks like Skee-Lo's I Wish nowadays...and Too Many T's made it with Wish I never. It seems Too Many T's did a favour for Simon because they made a track about drugs too, especially marijuana - lyrics is sick!

Summa summarum: the Running Wild is a great rap EP, after the Earl Necks & Round Grey remix mixtape and The T.P. EP this time the balance is perfect between the vocals and the instruments (ftw who did the mastering!). I think the EP has only one disadvantage, it is a digital release, no vinyl. :(

If you can't get enough of them, and also don't have the chance to go to their next concert (that means you live outside of the UK) just tune on Soho Radio London because they regularly have a show once a month: classic hiphop, and some fresh Too Many T's sound. Ghetto Funk mixtape (November 2014)

When we started the blog with Tom, we thought we had a diverse taste of music. But you can't discover music without your opinions, impressions, without your personal taste. Soon you realize that you are about to find some new music but you are just messing around those few portals, forums, or SoundCloud pages where you feel comfortable. As I see the list of my blog posts I can draw the map of my taste in music. Hiphop, house, ghetto funk and the minority (glitch hop, dnb, there were also some dubstep and rock music).
Now I recorded a mix of my favourite ghetto funk tracks. There is no surprise in this genre and now I can't describe it very much: kind of remixes of old school hiphop songs with some electronic vibes ( break and dubstep). I like that tempo, unfortunately this tempo could be a problem for most of the poeple at parties. It is around 95-110 BPM. Too fast for sitting and nodding your head but it can be too slow for jumping and dancing  - tis is not what you get used to house music (120 BPM) and other fast genres (techno, dnb).

What So Not at A38 (30th Oct - Thursday)

The last post was after a great concert, so I thought I have to recommend a good party just before it happens. This Thursday an Australian DJ duo, What So Not will take the decks at A38. What So Not is Flume and Emoh Instead. Flume was the first blog post of 2012, and his beautiful soulful electronic music made a huge impression to me.
In June Flume's album was the warming-up music at Timi's & Vili's wedding just before the ceremony. A great choice.




I don't let the wine in me talks too much...summa summarum I thought it doesn't matter what kind of project Flume brings to Hungary it will be a unique experience. He is Australian and those fellas don't come to Hungary so often. In What So Not, Flume shows his party-self, bringing some heavily trap-influenced music. Bass, claps, snares, tuba (!), dance music at its finest or ADM in one word (Australian Dance Music as they call themself). What So Not has some hits but nothing other official releases, no EPs, no LPs, only some DJ mixes.
I don't know how this guys do it but Flume and his "side-project" What So Not is extremely popular on SoundCloud. If you take a look at the tracks of them, you can find e.g. Jaguar track which has more than 6 millions of plays. This is something on SoundCloud. Okay it is easier if your track is the official song of one music festival. Or two: Holy Ship! Wicked.
Guys, if you like partying, and you want to lose your head but you still don't prefer simple (US) radio dance music like Flo-Rida, David Guetta and other bastards then you should come to the A38 boat at Thursday. What So Not will start at 23:30 - I know, I know it is Thursday, I have a day off on Friday, so What? (So Not)!

Caribou - Our Love

Last Friday we went to A38 to experience what Caribou released in early October (Our Love) and what he could offer by his band. I wanted to write about this album before the event - in order to give some ideas how to spend an awesome Friday night. But the tickets were sold 10 days before the concert - so that wouldn't have been a good recommendation. After the concert I can say that Caribou's electronic dance music (sorry, but this is dance music) is fucking great by a band. I read a review about Our Love in opinion weekly Magyar Narancs. In that review the album got 3 stars of 5 and the writer said Caribou made a good job but he just couldn't repeat what he has been doing as his alter-ego, Daphni. The critic also writes he feels that Mr Snaith (Caribou's real name) found a recipe for success 3 years ago and now he just doesn't want to leave his comfort zone. The album is not fresh - well, I don't care. And honestly I don't know Caribou's or Daphni's discography but this album could work. It is electronic, it can be monotonic, poetic or lyrical. Some of the songs reminds me early dubstep (All I Ever Need) some of them could be part of a techno-set (Our Love - brilliant), you can find pure psychedelia too (Your Love Will Set You Free) and I haven't mentioned the summer-hit Can't Do Without You. The weekest point of the album is the Second Chance. And I still think it was terrible at the concert too. Sorry. Beside that the album is still worth 4.5 of 5. House mixtape of October

This post will be kind of a self-promotion. Promotion of the lame quality I can present you. Since I don't have a pro account on SoundCloud, I decided not to upload mixes there. So I got my Mixcloud account and I am about to upload some mixes there. Mr Scruff - Friendly Bacteria (2014)

Mr Scruff is a genius. Really. And a vinyl lover. These facts made him a VIP of hangolo. :) This year he released his 5th album, Friendly Bacteria at Ninja Tune. I can't say a bad word.

Denis Jones gave his vocal for many tracks: Stereo Breath, Render Me, Thought to the Meaning or in the jazzy Catch Sound. They sound like Mr Oizo asked for Mike Patton to make something new for the audience. Sound unfamiliar, right? But Denis Jones and Mr Scruff nailed it. Btw. Denis Jones's soulful voice is almost as great as Jamie Lidell's (check Jamie here).

I like those instruments that are like the sounds of guns from 70s sci-fi movies. Mr Scruff have a mysterious recipe for making music: he puts an idea in front of you but he did something weird too. And that is just excellent. You feel comfortable listening to his music while he surprises little offbeat solutions. Listen to Render me or Deliverance and you'll get it.
Of course Mr Scruff delivers his wobble stuff too (in What) and he doesn't forget hiphop tradition, for example the song Friendly Bacteria is a fatty, messed-up sci-fi hiphop beat.
If you are more into 2-step/UK garage tempo, you can be satisfied with Come Find Me (feat. Vanessa Freeman). You are welcome, Sir.

Summary: The album Friendly Bacteria is a unique, mature, quite hard-to-digest music but believe me: the more time you devote to listen to it, the more benefit you get. Get the whole album HERE

Wunderbar House aus Berlin - The Chosen Two - Traumaland EP & We Don't Kehr EP

So, today we have some tasty electronic music. Again. Good house music. Again (?)
The chosen one of today is The Chosen Two. Two guys from Berlin who started in 1999/2003, have a lot of releases and usually mixing at Golden Gate. Vilmos, remember? That was one the clubs we couldn't enter last November. Now this is another good reason for checking these guys. And their music is a better reason.
I made a playlist of their two EPs (Traumaland and We Don't Kehr) These tracks are not their latest releases, I chose these because they are out on vinyl too and also give a fine representation of their own label Powder & Louder. If you like them, you know what to do: SoundCloud, Facebook.
I really hope they are coming to Budapest in the near future.
